The STARs Program : Introduction

SCSU Information Technology

Student Technology Assistance Representatives
A STAR at the Faculty Technology Walk-In Center in the Library The STARS (Student Technology Assistance Representatives) program brings students and faculty together in a collaborative effort to explore the use of technology in teaching and learning. As a STAR you will be trained to work with faculty members, administrators, staff, and IT personnel to develop and contribute to the critical mass of technological understanding on campus. Throughout their tenure at SCSU, STARS will receive extensive training in the software and hardware tools used at the university.

Students of any major and from any class are competitively selected based on academic grounds, willingness and potential to learn, and interpersonal and technical skills. STARS are hired for up to 20 hours per week (additional hours are an option during semester breaks), are paid for their work and upon graduation receive a certificate of achievement acknowledging their experience, skills, and accomplishments using technology. Moreover, their pursuit of employment will be bolstered by experience and confidence in using and learning technology which are increasingly valuable in the competitive job market.

Ultimately, this is an exceptional opportunity for students to develop valuable skills and "learn while working" with the Office of Information Technology.
